Besides, the conservatory houses 18 academic departments: Department of Composition & Conducting, Department of Musicology, Music Education Department, Department of Piano, Department of Vocal & Opera, Chinese Traditional Instruments Department, Department of Orchestra, Popular Music Department, Dance Department, Department of Drama, Department of Music Engineering, the School of Humanities & Social Sciences (Marxism Department), Collaborative Piano Department, the Affiliated School of Music, School of Continuing Education, School of Entrepreneurship, School of International Education, and Li Shutong School (school for talents of excellence).

ZJCM has established key provincial and ministerial research institutions such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Key Laboratory of Digital Music Intelligent Processing Technology, Immersive Sound Technology Innovation Center, Zhejiang Provincial Humanities Laboratory of Opera Studies, Digital Music Zhejiang Engineering Research Center, and the Zhejiang Arts and Literature Research Center. In addition, the conservatory has more than 20 school-level academic research platforms, including the Institute of Higher Music Education, Institute of Musicology, Institute of Drama Studies, Institute of Dance Studies, Advanced Institute of Art and Cultural Management, and the Music Culture Research Institute. It also features five new performance-based academic teaching platforms: Orchestra Academy, National Orchestra Academy, Opera Academy, Chamber Music Academy, and Choir Academy.

It also boasts high-level art practice ensembles such as Chamber Philharmonia, Chinese Music Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Chinese Music Orchestra, and the Choir. ZJCM is also home to the Editorial Board of the journal Music Culture Studies. Oriented for an international conservatory, ZJCM has signed strategic cooperation agreements with internationally renowned institutions, including the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University (USA), the Royal Northern College of Music (UK), the Liszt Academy of Music (Hungary), and Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary). As the chair institution, ZJCM initiated the China-CEEC Music Institutions Alliance and actively promotes international exchanges and cooperation. The school is also authorized by the Ministry of Education to independently admit students for arts programs, enrolling students nationwide. Currently, ZJCM has 2,856 undergraduate students and 661 graduate students, with a total staff of 694, including 452 full-time faculty members.
